ART WOOD, legendary vocalist of The Artwoods, Alexis Korner, and The Art Wood All-Stars, (and older brother of Rolling Stone, Ronnie Wood), passed away in November 2006 from Prostate Cancer. Art, who would have been 72
years old in July, was a very popular and charismatic figure who was a huge supporter of the Club, so The Eel Pie Club is hosting a birthday party in his memory, with part of the profits and a raffle to benefit The Prostate Cancer Charity.
The evening will feature The Eel Pie All-Stars led by guitarist and co-owner of The Eel Pie Club, Tom Nolan, with Don Craine and Keith Grant (Downliners Sect), Chris Hunt (ex Lonnie Donegan Band, Thunderclap Newman), Dave Lennox (ex Blodwyn Pig), plus a host of special guests, including Derek Griffiths, guitarist from The Artwoods, Art’s 1960’s Mod icon band and Ali Mackenzie of The Birds. This promises to be a very special night in memory of a very popular and charismatic musician.
In March 2007, the Eel Pie Club organised a musical tribute to Art Wood at York House, Twickenham, which raised over £8,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity, with 5 hours of music and 60 musicians, including Kenney Jones, Geno Washington and Ronnie Wood. In July 2008, when the Club remembered Art’s birthday, a further £900 was raised for the same charity.
